Reflections on My Faculty Appraisal Journey: A Semester of Growth and Innovation

As I reflect on the past semester and my faculty appraisal form submission on Darwinbox, I am reminded of the diverse responsibilities and enriching experiences that have shaped my teaching journey. The appraisal process allowed me to evaluate my contributions across 12 academic subgoals, highlighting my commitment to student engagement, innovation, and professional development.

1. Academic Engagement (25 Points)

My academic engagement this semester was driven by innovative teaching methods and personalized student interactions. In Design Graphics, I employed narrative-based learning, encouraging students to develop entire stories behind their graphical presentations. In Sociology and Anthropology, I integrated current affairs and interdisciplinary topics, making theoretical concepts more relatable to interior design. The Advertising and Branding course was particularly rewarding, as students took on the challenge of setting up marketing stalls during Pre-Opus, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios despite initial apprehensions.

2. Updating Course File (5 Points)

All course files were meticulously updated and submitted to the CCC by the end of the semester, ensuring that all teaching materials, assessments, and records were complete and accessible.

3. Assessment of Course Attainment (5 Points)

Course attainment was systematically evaluated, with rubrics reflecting strong outcomes: Sociology and Anthropology (CO1-0.75, CO2-0.75, CO3-0.67, CO4-0.69) and Design Graphics (CO1-0.79, CO2-0.79, CO3-0.81, CO4-0.81, CO5-0.78). This assessment highlighted students’ progress and areas for improvement.

4. Updating Attendance (5 Points)

Attendance was consistently updated on SLCM on a weekly basis, providing parents with timely insights into their wards’ attendance records.

5. Student Feedback (5 Points)

Student feedback underscored the effectiveness of my teaching methods. Sociology and Anthropology received ratings such as 3.85 for course outcome clarity and 4.5 for instructor preparedness. Design Graphics was rated highly, with scores ranging from 4.3 to 4.6 across various competencies.

6. Student Performance (5 Points)

Slow learners were given personalized attention through narrative-based teaching and interactive games, especially during the challenging Friday afternoon sessions, ensuring that learning was both engaging and effective.

7. Individual Development Objectives (10 Points)

I successfully completed multiple FDPs and online certifications, including courses from COA TRC, Swayam, IIM Bangalore, and Bhishma School of Indian Knowledge System. I am also pursuing a diploma in Indian Knowledge Systems, with one semester remaining. These programs have significantly improved my teaching skills by exposing me to contemporary pedagogical strategies, interdisciplinary knowledge, and advanced concepts in Indian Knowledge Systems. Participation in these trainings has enhanced my curriculum design, enriched my lectures with diverse perspectives, and equipped me with innovative tools to engage students effectively. This continuous learning has enabled me to create a more dynamic and inclusive classroom environment, ensuring that students benefit from up-to-date knowledge and creative teaching methodologies.

8. Responsibilities Allocated (30 Points)

My active participation in MAHE Research Day, including managing stall layouts and designing departmental bookmarks, contributed to the institution’s branding and event success.

9. Innovative Practices (5 Points)

Innovative pedagogies were a hallmark of my teaching this semester. In Project Management, I facilitated a Critical Path Method activity using the PMBOK 7th edition. This required quick decision-making on my part to ensure that limited class time was used efficiently. In Interior Graphics, I made the decision to have students create portfolios with narrative elements, which helped them identify gaps in their work and present cohesive stories. In Advertising and Branding, I took a calculated risk by introducing real-life product testing through marketing stalls during Pre-Opus. This decision required balancing student concerns about time, product acceptance, and sales performance, ultimately leading to a successful, hands-on learning experience that boosted their confidence and provided valuable data for institutional branding.

10. Documentation of Teaching Portfolio (10 Points)

I maintained a comprehensive teaching portfolio through social media reels, my personal blog (professorofdesign.com), and cloud storage, ensuring continuous reflection and improvement.

11. Other Responsibilities (10 Points)

No additional responsibilities were assigned by the PVC or HoI during this semester.

12. Professional Achievements (10 Points)

While there were no international professional achievements this semester, my focus remained on enriching my teaching practices and contributing to institutional growth.
